The Health Foundation's Scaling Up Improvement programme:
The Health Foundation, an independent charity working to improve the quality of health care in the UK, has over £3 million available for up to seven project teams to take successful health care improvement interventions and deliver them at a larger scale.
As part of their new Scaling Up Improvement programme, they are looking for projects that aim to improve health care delivery and/or the way people manage their own health care. Projects need to show how ideas, interventions and approaches that have been tested and show to improve care at a small scale can be delivered at a larger scale.
The Health Foundation's Scaling Up Improvement programme:
· Is looking to fund projects at a care pathway, health board, clinical network, organisational, regional or national level;
· applications can come from any health or health and social care provider organisation in the UK where services are free at the point of delivery;
· teams should have a strong track record in change management, measurement and evaluation;
· due to the range of skills and experience required to deliver an improvement project of this scale, a number of organisations will need to work together in partnership;
· each project will receive up to £500,000 over two and a half years.
If you are interested in applying, please read the Call for applications on the website -www.health.org.uk/scalingup
The deadline for the first stage of the application process is 12 noon on 16 June 2014.

Nominations are open for 2014 Powys Volunteer Centre Volunteer Awards
Powys Volunteer Centre is organising the 5th Volunteer of the Year Awards to honour exceptional volunteers in Powys.
“We all know incredible people — everyday heroes — who give of their time and talents to make our community a better place, many sports, leisure, social and community facilities are dependent on volunteers and without them, many crucial services in Powys would not exist” said Michele Muireasgha Head of Third Sector Development at PAVO
The awards evening will be September 11 at the Metropol Hotel in Llandrindod Wells and all shortlisted nominees will receive special recognition at the event and the winners will be presented with an award.
There is still time to nominate! If you know of someone who has given up his or her time to help others then why not nominate them for a Powys Volunteer of the Year Award?
There are five categories of awards this year: Volunteer up to the age of 25, Volunteer between the age of 25 – 59, Volunteer age 60 upwards, Group and Outstanding contribution.
For a nomination form you can contact PAVO on 01597 822191 or download from www.pavo.org.uk/volunteering/powys-volunteer-of-the-year.html.
The deadline for nominations is June 6.

Public Health Bill White Paper // Smokefree Village // Filter the Future
ASH Wales are pleased to see the inclusion of a number of tobacco control measures in the Welsh Government’s White Paper such as a retail register for tobacco which will help combat the problem of tobacco sales to under-18s and further legislation covering smokefree open spaces, including hospital grounds.
The White Paper also proposes a ban on electronic cigarettes in enclosed public premises but while ASH Wales recognises the concerns that have emerged with their growing use, they can see no suggestion in the existing evidence base that would support including them in the existing smokefree legislation.
ASH Wales are keen to hear the views of partners and stakeholders on the issue of electronic cigarettes before the consultation ends on June 24th and will be holding an all-day meeting of the Wales Tobacco or Health Network on Thursday 5th June at the Tapestri Centre in Swansea to debate the issue. Please contact them if you would like to attend this event or join the Network.

Healthy Friends Course
Clybiau Plant Cymru are currently delivering a Health Challenge Wales project, funded by Welsh Government, which follows on from a Big Lottery funded Way of Life Project.
The project aims to improve attitude, awareness and knowledge about living a healthier lifestyle. They deliver training to Childcare Workers and give the tools and resources to train some of the older children in their setting to deliver activities around healthy eating and physical activity to the younger children in the setting. As part of this particular project, they are also introducing activities around improving awareness about smoking and alcohol consumption.
Every childcare setting that attends a workshop is given a free activity resource pack, which contains 27 activity resource cards. There is an event happening in Machynlleth in the Autumn.
Read more about the project on their website www.plgh.org
