Scams Awareness Month

Age Cymru wants to find people to speak to the media about their experiences of scams during Scams Awareness Month in May.
These could either be people who have been scammed or family members of people who have been scammed.
They may have been targeted by rogue builders; ripped off by a postal scam such as a fake lottery; or been tricked into handing over bank details by phone or online scammers.
If you can help, please contact Iwan Rhys Roberts or Laura Nott on 029 2043 1562iwan.roberts@agecymru.org.uk,laura.nott@agecymru.org.uk
Rest assured, we won’t put pressure on anyone, or ask or expect them to do anything that makes them feel uncomfortable.

WCVA and Wales Co-operative Centre are holding two half-day mini-conferences on tendering for third sector organisations in March. The dates are as follows:

·         Thursday 13 March 2014 (am) – Venue Cymru, Llandudno
·         Wednesday 26 March 2014 (am) – Cardiff City Stadium

The events will provide procurement policy updates, a series of short practical workshops on tendering, and speakers from the buy side and third sector supply side. Further information is available here: www.wcva.org.uk/training-and-events/how-to-win-tenders

The conference will conclude with highlighting the support available for third sector organisations, so please let me know if there’s anything you would like to include here.

Also, they’re keen to get people engaged in Twitter conversation about tendering and procurement issues. Please use the hashtag #tenderconf prior to the events and on the days themselves to share your opinions and experiences.

Brecon stroke rehabilitation services

Following last year’s consultation, stroke services will move from Bronllys Hospital to Brecon Hospital on Monday 10 February.

The decision was taken due to the overall clinical benefits, and improved outcomes, that patients will receive from the service being located in Brecon.

Bob Hudson, Chief Executive of Powys teaching Health Board, said “I am grateful for all the involvement that the local community have had in the discussions around local services. I know that there were initial reservations about this move, but I hope that the success of other local projects, such as the Virtual Ward and the recently upgraded theatres in Brecon, help to demonstrate that we are committed to delivering the most appropriate care for the people of Powys.”

Powys Healthy Schools Network is recruiting new volunteer Support Assessors

The Powys Healthy Schools Scheme is part of a national network providing support and advice to schools on improving children’s health and wellbeing. Participating schools are assessed through an accreditation visit and if successful in implementing  agreed developments they receive an award.

Support Assessors
Support Assessors work alongside the Healthy Schools Officers and receive training to support their role. Their task is to provide ‘quality control’ for the award process – checking that schools are fulfilling the scheme’s requirements, and that the Healthy Schools Team applies fairness, consistency and rigour. People trained to be second assessors will be asked to commit to attending at least 2 accreditations during the school year.
