Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service Did You Know Survey

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Public Consultation

Did you know that as a Service they have already saved £9 million - nearly 20% of our budget since 2006?

They have achieved this by changing the way some stations are crewed and by refining some of their business processes. To date they have been able to make savings without negatively impacting on the services they deliver.

Even though they have already achieved this, there is no avoiding the fact that they are entering an even more challenging financial future. They know that as a public sector organisation they are going to have to play their part by looking for further efficiencies. They also know that this may mean making some difficult decisions.

They want to know whether you think your Fire and Rescue Service provides good value for money. Your feedback will help us shape the future of the services we provide. They would like to invite you to get involved in the debate and share your opinions on the value you place on their services and what they should do to protect them.

To find out more and take part in their online survey please visit their website http://www.mawwfire.gov.uk

Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival

In collaboration with the show Run4Wales are hosting the Royal Welsh Trail Running festival, which involves a 10k, half marathon, 3k and toddler dash as part of the Spring show on Sunday 21st May. They last did the event in 2015 and proved to be great feature of the spring show. This year they are back and have almost 1000 runners signed up to take part.

They are looking to work with local youth or community groups that may be interesting in volunteering as part of the event ( no interest in running is needed, it is just a great day to be a part of and they will make sure everyone is well looked after, fed and watered and will have access to the spring show) – to help with aspects such as the water station, in the baggage area and giving out the medals, water etc.

At our other events such as the Cardiff Half Marathon they successfully engages with a range of groups such as cadets, council youth groups, scouts, schools etc who had a great day supporting to make the event happen whilst gaining some valuable experience.

Powys Eye Care Liaison Officer

Keira's Brook's role is to ensure that residents of Powys who are affected by sight loss and their families have all of the support and information that they need. She does this by working to actively identify patients with a sight loss and ensuring that they are aware of and supported to access all of the practical, social, emotional and financial support that they require.

She works mainly within the ophthalmology clinics at the community hospitals at Ystradgynlais, Brecon, Llandrindod Wells and Llanidloes. For those who are not attending a clinic she provides a telephone based service. She cannot attend people's homes due to the large area she covers.

Being based in clinics allows Keira to ensure at the earliest stage possible that links are made from health into social care. However an important part of her role is to support people who are in the community and not part of the hospital system. This is where she relies on other agencies to provide extra information or support.

If you have any clients with a sight loss or eye condition please keep the ECLO service in mind! No query is too small and if someone does not want to be referred to Keira directly please do still contact her and she will pass you any info she can.

RNIB Cymru work in partnership with Powys Teaching Health Board. Since April 2017 the ECLO service has been commissioned by PTHB.

Commissioner Community Funding

A FUNDING programme with £75,000 available to communities across Dyfed-Powys has been launched inviting applications from groups and organisations in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys, who would use the funds to help improve people’s lives.

The Commissioner’s Community Fund offers grants of up to £5,000 to charities, voluntary organisations and community groups so they can develop ideas that have a positive impact on the areas they work in.

Projects must reflect in some way the priorities highlighted in the 2017-21 Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Plan, which are: Keeping our communities safe, safeguarding the vulnerable, protecting our communities from serious threats, and connecting with communities.

The funding is available to public sector, private sector, voluntary or community organisations and they encourage organisations to work together.

There is a maximum application threshold of £5,000 and applications higher than this will not be accepted. The programme is open from April 13, 2017 with a closing date of June 2, 2017.

For further information, you can ring our office on 01267 226 440 and ask to speak with Jessica Williams or email us: opcc@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk
