The Game Change Project Open Day 

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit The Game Change Project for their open day, and it was a really interesting and inspiring experience.

Based in Mid Wales, The Game Change Project provides practical, outdoor learning opportunities for young people, helping them to develop confidence, resilience, motivation and valuable life skills. Their approach is very hands-on, with activities including animal care and equine handling, mechanics and land-based skills.

The open day was a great opportunity to see the project in action and find out more about the work that takes place there. What struck me most was the emphasis on learning by doing. Rather than simply sitting in a classroom, young people are able to get involved in practical activities, develop new skills and discover interests that could potentially lead towards future education or employment.

One of the highlights was chatting with young people who were learning the traditional skill of dry stone walling. It was fantastic to see them developing practical skills, working together and taking real pride in what they were doing.

Another area that really stood out to me was the garage, where much of the mechanical learning takes place. It was incredibly well kept, with tools carefully organised, clean and clearly looked after. The attention to detail said a lot about the pride and standards that are encouraged throughout the project.

It was also clear that the project is about much more than learning practical skills. Building confidence, encouraging teamwork and helping young people recognise their own strengths are at the heart of what The Game Change Project does.

The Game Change Project is a great example of how practical, supportive and engaging learning can make a real difference. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and left with a real sense of admiration for everyone involved - especially the young people.
