Assessing and building the strengths of individuals and the assets of a community opens the door to new ways of thinking about and improving the well -being of communities. For too long we have concentrated on the deficits and problems within communities, and it’s time for a different approach. Also there is increasing acknowledgement amongst practitioners at practice, policy and funding levels of the benefits of asset based approaches in supporting projects, programmes and initiatives in a more effective way. Assessing assets alongside needs will give a better understanding of communities and help build resilience, increase participation, engagement and involvement and develop better ways of providing services and sustainable initiatives.
CDC is providing learning opportunities on asset based approaches to individuals, communities, and organisations across the sectors.
