Learning Opportunities with Community Development Cymru

In the context of community engagement and development, Community Development Cymru is offering full one day training sessions which provide opportunities to explore ideas, good practice and personal experience through interactive group work and discussion. The sessions encourage participants to reflect on current thinking and practice and to learn from the valuable experience of others. The sessions are relevant to all those working, or planning to work in community settings. These could be voluntary or statutory organisations. Managers and paid staff. Community groups, community activists, community leaders, representatives and volunteers. 
 INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Content – What is community development? What is it trying to achieve and why? The values and principles which underpin community development. Utilising frameworks of good practice. What is community empowerment? Community development and change. Are you doing it?! 
 INTRODUCTION TO THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT NATIONAL OCCUPATIONAL STANDARDS (CDNOS) Content – What is the CDNOS? How is it relevant to community empowerment and change? How might it be relevant to your work? How can organisations make use of the CDNOS as a tool for improving practice and community involvement? 
 ASSET BASED APPROACHES…BUILDING COMMUNITIES FROM THE INSIDE OUT Content - How asset based approaches differ from traditional models of community development. Asset based values and principles. Defining and understanding “assets”. Asset based methods of engaging communities. Examples of asset based approaches. Advantages and disadvantages. 
 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND INVOLVEMENT Content - Why work with communities? From consultation to participation - knowing the difference. Valuing community expertise. Methods and approaches to community engagement. Equal partnerships and creating agendas for change. Community empowerment – What`s needed?
