As we race to the last working day before our Christmas holidays, I’m mindful this year that it falls on the shortest day of the year 21st December. For me, this day, the Winter Solstice has all sorts of meanings. Over Christmas many of us stay warm - lighting fires, eating hearty food and enjoying the holiday season, whatever tradition we celebrate. We make special efforts to be with family, friends and neighbours, with our Christmas lighting ceremonies or food festivals, Christmas markets, choirs, church and concerts. But at this time of year I’m also aware of many people in Powys who may be socially isolated, living with depression, living on their own, people who are sad or lonely, who are in need. I’m very mindful and grateful for the work of Sector colleagues who are on the front line, giving support to people. It is the season generally of good will, of sharing, of compassion and of giving. I hope that at this time you will feel the abundance of receiving yourselves and in giving, feel you are filled up with light, warmth and energy as we head into the New Year. Wishing you and your families, colleagues, clients and friends a very happy and warm holiday season and a heartfelt New Year celebration. We look forward very much to working with you all in 2019.
