Positive & Safe Use of Facebook, Twitter & Social Messaging Apps

Adult Learner's Week (with support from NIACE Dysgu Cymru) on the 7th of July from 9.15am to 12.30am at the Lysaght Institute in Newport.

Ever wondered how to use Twitter or Facebook more effectively to further your personal or professional interests? Have you been concerned about how to use these technologies safely? What about the many new social messaging apps like Whatsapp, Kik, iMessenger - want to find out more?
This Adult Learners' Week workshop will provide an overview of current popular social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) and social media messaging technologies (like Whatsapp, Kik, Viber). It will explain the similarities and differences between these services and explain how they can be used positively and safely. It will also present other new Internet services, apps and websites that you can use for learning, personal and professional development.

The workshop will also address key online safety issues to be aware of when using these services, and will feature practical demonstrations on how to manage your privacy settings, location services, etc.
The workshop is suitable for any adult (professional or otherwise) who has an interest in these themes, and wishes to learn more. All participants will also be given a link to a dedicated website of resources and links to support continued learning after the workshop.
