Trainee opportunities with new Pathways to Farming project

Growing opportunities in Pathways to Farming

Mid-Wales based community organisation Mach Maethlon have launched a new project: Pathways to Farming – Llwybrau at Ffermio. The 2 ½ year project, funded by LEADER Arwain, aims to support new horticulture food producers and create stronger local food economies.

One main aspect of the project is to provide access to land and training for people who want to get into food production and contribute to the local food economy. “We are looking for people who are interested in commercial food production. The project can provide ‘micro farm’ sites in Macynlleth and Newtown for trainee growers to learn on, we can also support people with their own land and existing growers who want to increase production. So, if anyone is interested in training in horticultural food production, please get in touch!” explains Project Coordinator Jodie Griffith.

The project has already developed exciting partnerships. In Machynlleth the Centre for Alternative Technology have offered land, project support and shared vision, while in Newtown the project has partnered with community growing organisation Cultivate to share their community garden and their vision for a more resilient food system.

Jodie goes on to say; “We are looking to connect with people interested in training as a horticultural food producer, as well as businesses interested to access high quality produce grown in the Machynlleth and Newtown areas.”
