Aims of the Day:  To explore and challenge the personal beliefs and attitudes that creates barriers for disabled children and young people’s inclusion in society and how these can be overcome.

Issues Covered in Training:

To understand the legislative framework for providing inclusive services.
To explore how models of disability affect practice
The power of language and terminology in relation to disabled children
Social Model vs Medical/expert Model of disability
Rights based approaches to inclusion of disabled children – giving children a voice
Discussing and debunking the myths of including disabled children into mainstream activities
Duties under the Equality Act 2010
Overcoming barriers - understanding and promoting reasonable adjustments
Working in partnership with parents
To consider ways mainstream activities can be adapted to include disabled children-
Looking at features of inclusive settings
Child development from 0 - 25 and the impact of disability / long terms conditions on the child and young person
