NHS at 70 From Cradle to Grave

Are you interested in people? Are you a good listener? Would you like to play a part in creating a shared national story for the NHS?

The NHS is celebrating 70 years and we are working to capture stories and artefacts of those who worked for and/or were patients of the NHS in days gone by. We will be creating a national digital archive of NHS history. Find out how you can get involved either as a volunteer collecting stories or as someone who can share a story. You will receive volunteer oral history training, out of pocket expenses and the opportunity to hear first hand remarkable stories from local communities.

Find out more by visiting our information day: V2C Resource Centre, Nolton Street, Bridgend on 29th September 2017 at 1pm

Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations are working with the University of Manchester (Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine) on a Heritage Lottery project which seeks to create a digital archive of the NHS as it celebrates its 70th anniversary.

They would like to invite people of all ages to find out more about how they can get involved either as volunteers to document the stories or people with stories and memories to share, either as NHS staff (retired/current) or as patients of the past. They will be holding this information event on September 29th 2017 in Bridgend as show above. You don’t have to live in Bridgend County to be part of this project.

Their aim is to have a bank of ‘Oral historians’ trained up over 3 days this Autumn and this is open to anyone. However they would really like to encourage inter-generational work and engage young people aged 14-25 to train up as volunteers too. Volunteers can gain filming skills using ordinary every day devices. It is important for them to have Welsh language input too to reflect the diversity of the area and so are actively seeking welsh speaking volunteers. If you can get young people interested and involved in this they will look at running training at more convenient times for them (outside of school/college hours).

Please share this information far and wide, and ask people to get in touch for more info or to reserve their place. They are happy for people to link this to their work and become partners to this important national archive. Unfortunately, there is no funding involved other than out of pocket expenses for volunteers and participants and free training via the University of Manchester and its partners to the project.
