Organisations from across Powys attended the Health and Social Care Network event on 13th and 14th January to find out ‘What’s New with Well-Being in Powys?’
The events were held at venues in Newtown and Brecon and despite the challenging weather conditions around 40 people attended.
Delighted to say there are now 20 more Dementia Friends in Powys helping towards our target of a Dementia Friendly Powys, thanks to a session ran by PAVO’s Dementia Champion Trish Buchan. We would also like to thank Vanessa Garwood, Alzheimer’s Society for her tips on communicating with people with Dementia – interesting food for thought!
Our biggest thanks to everyone who contributed to discussions around the changes to the Social Care & Well Being Act. There is a lot of great work going on in the voluntary sector to support people in Powys but also, concern that we may not be ready for the added pressure resulting from the changes to how people are assessed and their needs met.
Everyone felt that the expectations on the sector to meet the increase in demand was unrealistic, however all participants would be happy to be more involved in planning discussions with our statutory partners to ensure that there is capacity to make sure services can continue to be provided to those in need.
People found these events an excellent and much needed opportunity for networking so watch this space for further networking and information events.
