Machynlleth Health Centre

A group of local GPs are to take over GP healthcare services for the whole of the Dyfi Valley after winning a contract to manage Machynlleth Health Centre. Dr Jon Shaw, Dr Louise Hyde and Dr Sara Bradbury-Willis will now lead a team of GPs, nurses and other allied healthcare workers in a plan to improve services to rural patients from across the Dy
Announcing the news, Alan Lawrie, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Primary & Community Care and Mental Health at Powys Teaching Health Board said:

“The GP team from Glantwymyn Health Centre showed a real commitment to local people. I am confident that these kind of ‘joined up’ services are vital for the future of Welsh rural healthcare, and reflect what we have heard from people in the Dyfi Valley about their aspirations.”

Dr Jon Shaw, senior GP from Glantwymyn Health Centre said:  “We are absolutely thrilled to win this contract. We are passionate about providing the best possible care to all patients in this community. We already know many of these patients – we live here, we work here and we are in it for the long haul”

The contract will begin in April 2017.

“There will be a transition period, for staff and for patients, but we want it to be as smooth and fuss-free as possible. This is an exciting time for everyone. We expect to develop new and improved services at both Glantwymyn and Machynlleth health centres, as well as at the main hospital site. ” said Dr Louise Hyde.

Dr Sara Bradbury-Willis, GP from Glantwymyn Health Centre, said:  “At a time when NHS services have hit the headlines in England, it is wonderful to see Welsh healthcare moving onwards and upwards. The hospital site in Machynlleth has been earmarked for massive investment, and we intend to make sure that local patients benefit”

Alan Lawrie added:  “I would also like to thank the whole team at Machynlleth Health Centre for their ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of people in the Machynlleth area.”

A series of drop in sessions will be held in the coming months for local people to contribute to the development of this new healthcare model. Details will be announced shortly.
