Innovative approaches to public services in rural communities/ Ymagweddau arloesol tuag at wasanaethau cyhoeddus mewn cymunedau gwledig

This seminar will share innovative approaches to help understand how public services can meet the needs of rural communities in Wales.

More about this event

Audit Wales recently published a report on Local Government Services to Rural Communities. In this report they identified 9 authorities as rural, 11 as semi-rural/urban and 2 as urban.

The reality is that delivering fair and equitable public services and maintaining specialist provision in rural areas is challenging due a number of reasons including:
  • geography
  • distance
  • cost
  • scalability.

The seminar is framed around the 7 Well-being goals of the WFG Act and is aimed at all public services in Wales. The ideas and approaches shared at this seminar can be adapted to suit a wide range of services.
This event is relevant to all public services across Wales including:
  • local authorities
  • health
  • police forces
  • fire authorities
  • third sector bodies
  • housing associations
  • community groups
  • voluntary bodies
  • charities
  • social enterprises

Y realiti yw bod darparu gwasanaethau cyhoeddus teg a chyfiawn a chynnal darpariaeth arbenigol mewn ardaloedd gwledig yn heriol oherwydd nifer o resymau gan gynnwys:
  • daearyddiaeth
  • pellter
  • cost
  • hyfywedd.

Mae'r seminar wedi'i seilio ar 7 nod Llesiant y Ddeddf Goruchwyliaeth Ariannol ac mae wedi'i dargedu at yr HOLL wasanaethau cyhoeddus yng Nghymru. Gall y syniadau a'r ymagweddau a rennir yn y seminar hwn gael eu haddasu i gyd-fynd ag ystod eang o wasanaethau.

The loss of the ‘cornerstones’ of rural communities such as banks, schools, and post offices and poor access to key infrastructure like public transport and superfast broadband can compound the challenge of sustaining public services in rural communities.

CaPowys! Coming soon to a place near you ...

PAVO is launching ‘CaPowys! Machynlleth’, the first of our Community Action Roadshows with 2-days of training, support and networking events at Y Plas, Machynlleth, on 11th & 18th June.

The main ways you can get involved are:

  • By coming along to our training workshops on fundraising, social media, working with volunteers, and being a trustee (details and booking via our website at http://bit.ly/capowys )
  • By dropping in to speak to our skilled Development Advisors about any aspect of running or setting up a community project, charity or social enterprise. They will be there from 10-30am-5.30pm on 11th June.
  • By joining in the Community Soup at 1pm on 11th June, to help raise money for a local project (possibly your own!). Either develop a pitch for your own project by attending the 'Writing a Really Great Funding Bid' in the morning; or just come for the Soup itself (paid by donation).
  • By having a free stall at the Community Connections Fair on 18th June to share and talk about your work.
  • By coming to the Volunteer Networking Tea (& Cake!), to see if you can find some more amazing volunteers for your project.
We are also looking for partners to help us deliver the Community Soup event (either by providing some ingredients, or making the soup itself, or a kitchen, or providing the bowls and spoons!). So if you're interested, we'd love to hear from you!

Please help to spread the word and share with anyone you think might be interested. If you would like a bundle of leaflets, we can arrange a drop-in in Machynlleth.
