Aim: To understand the importance of preventing and/or minimising abuse, abusive and inappropriate behaviour. This is central to good practice within Health and Social Care settings as clearly set out in the Wales Interim Policy and Procedures for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults from Abuse. Provide information about those vulnerable to abuse, the nature and extent of abuse, possible causes of abuse, perpetrators of abuse, the responsibility to report, whistle blowing and to allow participants to explore their values in relation to vulnerable adults and their attitudes towards abuse.
Key Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course participants will:
■ An awareness of the abuse of vulnerable adults
■ An understanding of values and attitudes, person centred care and the dignity agenda
■ An understanding of definitions and categories of abuse
■ An awareness of the Wales Interim Policy and Procedures summary version
■ Have the confidence and knowledge to work appropriately with vulnerable adults
■ Have the confidence and knowledge to report concerns relating to vulnerable adults
