Action on Elder Abuse Cymru

Action on Elder Abuse Cymru works exclusively on the issue of abuse of older people, raising awareness, providing training and campaigning to protect older people from abuse at the hands of someone in whom there is an expectation of trust.

They are holding their annual conference in St. Asaph on Tuesday 5th March 2019. It is entitled 'Elder Abuse is a Crime - Is Wales doing enough to protect and support victims?' Following two successful conferences in Cardiff this is the first in North Wales. We will be discussing how the criminal justice agencies respond to older victims of crime, the support older victims receive in Wales and what more can be done to protect older people.

• The abuse of older people in domestic settings: ageism, coercive control and gender - Alan Clark, Professor of Criminology, Aberystwyth University, Dewis Choice Project

• Adult safeguarding – Working together with Criminal Justice Agencies - Carys Phillips, BASW Cymru Committee member and co-chair of the Social Work Law in Wales - Policy Practice and Education Group.

• Making Wales the best place in the world to grow older: stopping the abuse of older people - Steve Bartley, Safeguarding Lead, Older People's Commissioner for Wales

• Ann Griffith, North Wales Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner.
